Obituary

Evans – James “Bo” Rivers, 72, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 18, 2015.

He grew up in rural Columbia County and remained a lifelong resident. His true legacy is his children, Jimmy, JJ and Michael. When he spoke of his children, everyone could tell how proud he was of them and the adults they’ve become.

At an early age, Bo turned his enthusiasm for engines into a career choice that would shape the remainder of his life. He built engines and performed machine work for a local shop for over thirty years. It was there that he quickly earned the reputation as the man you wanted to do your engine work. At an age when many are planning to slow their pace, Bo, with the blessings and encouragement of his wife, Sarah, made the leap to open his own shop. Through his tireless effort and direction, Bo’s Machine Shop grew from an empty building and twenty three years later, continues to lead the industry. Bo never met a stranger and given the opportunity, to help another person. He loved a long ride through the country and frequently, that’s how he liked to spend his Sundays.
He was one of four children, his siblings being, Bill Rivers (Lynda), Freddie Rivers(Sue) and Dorothy Smith. He was preceded in death by his loving and devoted wife of thirty nine years, Sarah Rivers. He’s survived by his children; Michael Rivers(Laura), James M. “Jimmy” Rivers, Jr. (Gena) and Jennifer Downing, as well as his grandson, Tyler Downing.
We welcome all of his family, friends and business associates to celebrate the life of the man that was Bo Rivers. His funeral will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, August 22, 2015 at Platt’s Belair Road Chapel with the Rev. John L. Arthur officiating. Burial will follow Evans First Baptist Church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday evening, August 21, 2015 from 6:00 until 9:00 PM.
