Lucien J. Allyson passed away peacefully on May 13, 2005 after a long battle with congestive heart failure. He would have been 94 in July and had battled the odds surviving many years with this illness. Lucien had an enormous will to live, kept alive by the desire to be with his family.
Lucien was an avid sports fan. He was 7 years old when the Red Sox won the World Series and was overjoyed when they won again in 2004.
During WW II he worked as Civil Service mechanic at Grenier Field in NH. He was always proud to recount how he had serviced Gen. Eisenhower's plane. Lucien was owner of Allyson’s Esso Station on North Elm Street in Manchester for over 40 years. After retirement, he was employed part-time by the Manchester Water Works at the Water Treatment Plant.
Lucien was a great storyteller and was always well informed of world events and could carry on an animated conversation with anyone about anything. He also had a lifelong passion for classical music and would often wax eloquent about the genius of Beethoven, Bach, Mozart and Chopin. In his later years he enjoyed listening to music on his personal CD player and often received CD’s for gifts.
Lucien was the son of Emma Rheault and Charles Allyson. He was predeceased by his six siblings, Rev. Robert, Rev. Charles, Rev. Leo, Henry, Henriette, and Cecile and by his beloved wife of 67 years, Irene, who died on 9/11/04 at the age of 95.
He is survived by two daughters, Denise Tremblay of Manchester and Liane Crawford of Boston; five grandchildren, Paul Tremblay of Manchester, Michele Tremblay of Boscawen, Allyson Crawford of New York, and Derrick and Dylan Crawford of Boston.
He had a very special relationship with his grandchildren - they adored him and he was their last grandparent. They will miss his love for them, his interest and support for all that they do, and his utter joy in just seeing them. Lucien will be missed by his many devoted caretakers and friends at Hanover Hill Care Center where he lived for two years and where his wife lived for five years.
A funeral was held Saturday, May 21, at St. Anne-St. Augustine Church in Manchester, NH. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association, 20 Merrimack St., Suite 1, Manchester, NH 03101-2244
