Jimmy M. Merritt, 56, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Thursday May 12, 2005, at the Medical Center of Central Georgia in Macon, Georgia.
Funeral services will be held at 4 PM, Sunday May 15, 2005 at the Paulk Funeral Home Chapel, Fitzgerald, with Rev. Wilburn Wiley officaiting. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 7 until 9 Saturday evening at the funeral home.
Mr. Merritt was born February 9, 1949, in Wilcox County, Georgia to the late Henry Matthew and Jewell Wofford Merritt. He lived in the community most of his life and was a former member of the Merchant Marines. Mr. Merritt worked as a security guard at Irwin County Hospital and was a former employee of Northside Hardware in Fitzgerald and Davey Tree Service in Atlanta. He loved to sing and play his guitar and banjo for family, friends and residents at local nursing homes. Mr. Merritt was a member of Liberty Emmanuel Holiness Church.
Mr. Merritt is survived by his wife: Carolyn R. Merritt of Fitzgerald; two sons: James Scott Merritt and Calvin Mitchell Merritt, both of Fitzgerald; seven grandchildren; two brothers: Bob Merritt of Wilcox County and Billy Merritt of Fitzgerald; one sister: Lawana Wilcox of Pineview.
