KERN, Joseph A., longtime resident of Willow St., West Roxbury, formerly of Jamaica Plain, Aug. 16, 2015. Age 98. Beloved son of the late Anthony F. and Rose A. (Menz) Kern.
Devoted uncle of Judith Lentini and her husband Leo of Foxboro, Jeanne Drummey and her husband John of Mansfield, Robert Kern of Norwood, and Ed Kern and his wife Mary of Wrentham. Also survived by many great-nieces and great-nephews and great great nieces and nephews. Brother of the late Clement and Leo Kern.
WWII Army Veteran, during the war Joe helped produce prosthetic limbs. Former employee of the MBTA, member of the Carmen’s Union, Local 589, Boston. He was a proponent of distance walking and cycling long before it was popular. Joe loved nature, he enjoyed hiking and spending time in the Arnold Arboretum.
Funeral from the P.E. Murray-F.J. Higgins, George F. Doherty & Sons Funeral Home, 2000 Centre St., WEST ROXBURY Wednesday, Aug. 19 at 10:30am. Funeral Mass in Holy Name Church, West Roxbury at 11:30am. Relatives and friends kindly invited. Visiting hours Tuesday, Aug. 18 from 4-8pm. Interment Mt. Benedict Cemetery, West Roxbury.
