Doris M. Ashley, 80, of Ocilla, Georgia, died Sunday, May 8, 2005 at Magnolia Manor in Americus, Georgia.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, May 10, 2005 at the Ocilla Baptist Church, with the Rev. Gerald Thomas officiating. Interment will follow in Ocilla Cemetery. Visitation will be held Monday from 7 P.M. until 9 P.M. at the funeral home in Ocilla.
Mrs. Ashley was born April 2, 1925, in Griffin, Georgia to the late John Tarpley and Bessie Jane Griffin Mitchell. She was 1942 graduate of Spalding County High School and a graduate of Atlanta Business College. Mrs. Ashley moved to Irwin County in 1945 after she and Clint Ashley married. She was a member of Ocilla Baptist Church, where she was active in the Choir, WMU and Sunday School Teacher. Mrs. Ashley was an Officer in Irwin Federal Savings and Loan, when she retired in 1990 after 37 years of service the name had changed to First Federal Savings and Loan of Albany, Ocilla Branch. She was a former Den Mother with the Cub Scouts, a former member of the Pilot Club, the American Legion Auxiliary and an avid Bridge player.
Mrs. Ashley is survived by 2 sons and daughters-in-law: Pat and Joyce Ashley of Wray and Mike and Penny Ashley of Lawrenceville; five grandchildren: Todd Ashley, Michelle A. Kakaty, Eric Ashley, Alison Ashley and Michael Ashley. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clint Ashley, four sisters and three brothers.
