J. Thomas Altizer
Augusta, GA – Entered into rest Saturday, August 15, 2015, Mr. J.Thomas Altizer, 80, husband of 57 years to Mrs. Frances Laney Altizer.
Mr. Altizer was born in Clarksburg, West Virginia. He was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John and Avice Altizer. Mr. Altizer was educated in the Clarksburg public school system and graduated from West Virginia University. He was commissioned as an Ensign in the U.S. Navy and was assigned to the Navy Supply Corps School in Athens, GA where he met his wife. He served for 3 years in San Diego, CA, following his Naval service he worked for the next 35 years in various positions for Lily Tulip Cup Company in Springfield, MO, Toledo OH and Augusta, GA. Mr. Altizer was an active member of St. John United Methodist Church where he served as Chair of the Administration Board and other committee positions. He was a member of the Uptown Kiwanis Club and the Traffic Club. Mr. Altizer enjoyed his service as a Poll Manager in West Augusta. He was a college football enthusiast, a saltwater fisherman and enjoyed his sailboat on both Lake Erie and Clarks Hill.
Family members in addition to his wife include son: Michael Altizer (Nan) of Birmingham, AL; daughter: Karen Johnson (Collier) of Alpharetta, GA; grandsons: Benjamin Johnson (Christine) of Virginia Beach, VA and William Johnson of Atlanta, GA. He was preceded in death by his son: David Thomas Altizer.
A memorial service will be Thursday, August 20, 2015, 11:00A.M. in the Fellowship Hall at St. John United Methodist Church with Rev. Gary DeMore officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.
