Obituary

Alexander S. Nicholas, 95, of Dartmouth passed away Saturday, August 15, 2015 at Our Lady's Haven surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Doris (LeBlanc) Nicholas.
Born in New Bedford, son of the late Spiro and Olymbia (Ligor) Nicholas, he had lived in New Bedford prior to moving to Dartmouth in 1967. A veteran of WWII, he served his country in the United States Army as a member of the 570th Signal Company in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Central Europe and the Ardennes. He earned several medals, including Good Conduct, European African Middle Eastern Campaign Ribbon, Bronze Star and Silver Star. The discipline and patriotism he learned in the Army never left him, as friends and family will attest. Mr. Nicholas was a Communicant of St. Julie Billiart Parish, Dartmouth. Alex retired from MCI Bridgewater in 1975 after 24 years of service retiring as a Assistant Deputy. He went on to enjoy many good years of retirement with his wife, son, granddaughters, family and friends. An avid Patriots fan, he enjoyed "fine tuning" all of the New England sports teams. Mr. Nicholas loved working in his garden, old western cowboy movies and playing tennis.
Including his wife, survivors include a son: Gregory S. Nicholas of Westport; 2 sisters: Phyllis Vasil of Needham, MA and Constance Langevin of Wellesley, MA; 2 grandchildren: Amanda J. Nicholas and Morgan M. Nicholas; a daughter-in-law: Sandra J. Nicholas; and several nieces and nephews.
He was grandfather of the late Ethan A. Nicholas and brother of the late Christopher, Nicholas, George and Michael Nicholas, Jennie Johan and Bessie Nicholas.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff of Southcoast VNA, Dr. Michael Egan and his special caregiver Lisa Jusseaume for their care and compassion.
