Edmund Ferrara, age 93, of Plainville, formerly of Mansfield passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family on Monday, August 10, 2015 at the Life Care Center in Attleboro.
He was the beloved husband of the late Florabelle J. (DeLauri) Ferrara to whom he was wed on February 9, 1942 and who died on July 17, 2012
Born in Mansfield, MA on January 20, 1922, he was a loving son of the late James and Mary (Ricci) Ferrara.
Ed grew up and was educated in Mansfield. During WWII, he proudly served his country as a combat veteran in the United States Navy, in the Pacific Fleet. He was honorably discharged from active duty on February 4, 1946 with the rank of Fire Controlman, Third Class.
Prior to retiring in 1985, Mr. Ferrara had worked as a welder and pipefitter for 18 years at the Foxboro Company. He had previously been employed at the former Hercules Powder Co in Mansfield, the former Nabisco Chocolate Co. in Mansfield, and prior to WWII at General Dynamics in Quincy.
Ed had made his home in Plainville for the past 43 years. He was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Mansfield, a member of the American Legion Post 20 in Attleboro and a former member of the Taunton Lodge of Elks. He loved spending time with family and his hobbies included gardening.
He is survived by his devoted children Edmund J. Ferrara of Walpole and Virginia A. Foster and her husband Douglas of Keene, New Hampshire. He was the cherished grandfather of Wendy Scott and Brian Foster of Keene, New Hampshire, and the great grandfather of Douglas Foster, Jason Foster, Evan Goodale and Brittnay Scott. He was the dear brother of the late Paul Ferrara, Susan Piva and Antionette Louongo, and is also survived by several loving nieces and nephews.
His funeral, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Saturday, August 15th at 9:00 A.M. from the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home, 55 North Main St., Mansfield, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 10:00 A.M. in St. Mary’s Church, 330 Pratt St. (Route 106) Mansfield.
Visiting hours will be held on Friday, August 14th from 5:00-8:00 P.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home.
Burial with military hours will be held on Friday, August 21st at 10:00 A.M. at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
