Salvatore Atria passed away peacefully at his Medford home after a brief illness. He was 85. Born and raised in Marsala, Sicily, Salvatore came to the United States as a young man and settled in the North End of Boston. A soccer player and enthusiast, Salvatore was instrumental in bringing amature soccer to the United States. He was part owner and coach of the Boston tigers and Boston Italia teams. A restaurateur, Salvatore owned and operated with his wife, Salviās Tower on Cambridge St. in Boston for over 20 years. A devoted family man, Salvatore enjoyed time with his relatives and friends and especially loved to be with his grandson.
The beloved husband of Ida (Marcello) Atria, he was the loving father of Anna Atria-Hinch and her husband Jerry Hinch of Lynnfield. He also leaves his devoted grandson Gerald Hinch.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to visit at the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford, on Thursday from 4 thru 8 PM and again on Friday morning, August 14th at 9 followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, celebrated in St. Joseph Church, 118 High Street, Medford at 10 AM. Services will conclude with entombment at Woodlawn Mausoleum.
