CHICOPEE – Paul E. Vermette, 91, of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Saturday, August 1, 2015. He passed into Eternal Life at the Hotel-Dieu de Levis in Levis, Province of Quebec, Canada surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving wife and family. He was born at home in Rivière-Bleue, Province of Quebec, Canada on January 28, 1924, a beloved son of the late Joseph and Louisa (Lemieux) Vermette. He was raised in Saint Raphel de Bellechasse and Saint Gervais de Bellechasse and moved to the North End section of Springfield in 1953. He lived in Springfield before moving to Chicopee around 1990. He was a Master Carpenter and was the co-owner with his brother, Lionel, of Vermette Brothers. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and meeting his family and friends at the camp in Vermont. He was proud of his French heritage and enjoyed making maple syrup for many years. He was a member of the Elder Council 69 Knights of Columbus in Chicopee and was a communicant of the former Saint Thomas Aquinas Church in Springfield. He leaves his beloved wife, Yolande A. (Dion) Vermette. They were married at the Church of Saint Gervais de Bellechasse and were blessed with over 62 years of happiness together. Besides his wife, he leaves his three devoted sons, Claude J. Vermette and his partner, Nancy J. Ferguson, and Donald H. J. Vermette and his wife, Rebecca, all of Feeding Hills, and Rejean L. Vermette and his wife, Lucie, of Springfield; his eight cherished grandchildren, Joshua Vermette and his wife, Erin, Justin Vermette, Jessica Wojcik and her husband, Steve, Amy Vermette and her partner, Vincent Ardizoni, Rachel Vermette and her partner, Matt May, Paul Vermette and his partner, Katina Frogameni, Michael Vermette and Nicole Vermette; his six cherished great-grandchildren, Ava and Maura Vermette, Alexis and Stephen Wojcik, and Aubrey and Alex Vermette; his dear brother, Lionel Vermette and his partner, Alvenia Doiron, of Beaumont, P.Q., Canada; and his many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, friends and extended members of the Vermette and Dion families. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his dear brother, Raphael Vermette; his dear sister, Jeanne D’Arc Vermette; and his dear cousin who was raised with his family, Annette (Lemieux) Lacroix. His Funeral will be held on Saturday morning, August 15, 2015 beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 8 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 600 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His Burial will follow the Mass at Sainte Rose Cemetery, 49 Olsen Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, August 14, 2015 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. His family has requested that memorial donations be made in his memory to the Shriner’s Hospital for Children, (please specify Springfield), 516 Carew Street, Springfield, MA 01104.
