Leonard Glenn Sewell

Augusta, GA – Entered into rest Thursday, August 6, 2015, LTC Leonard Glenn Sewell (U.S. Army Ret.), 88, loving husband of 64 years to Lois Sewell.

Glenn joined the Marine Corps in 1945, served for 13 years and then 13 years in the Army, retiring in 1971. He served in various commands worldwide; Korea, Germany, Lebanon, Taiwan, Okinawa, and Vietnam. Most notably he was a survivor of the famous battle of the Chosin Reservoir in North Korea during the Korean War, and a member of the “Chosin Few” band of brothers. He received many medals including the Bronze Star.

Following his retirement he worked in the state Fire Marshall’s office and for HUD. He was active in various organizations including the Korean War Veterans Association, the Knights of Columbus where he was a Past Grand Knight, Past Faithful Navigator and Former District Deputy. He was also a past Commandant of the Marine Corps League, LTC Jimmie Dyess Detachment #921, and volunteered at the VA for 8 years. He enjoyed growing orchids and collecting stamps and coins.

Family members in addition to his wife include his sons: Michael Sewell and wife Cindy, Greg Sewell and wife Sandra; daughters: Cathy McNitt and husband Art, Lori Jann and husband Bill, Grace McArthur and husband Shaun; 15 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents: Charles and Marie Sewell; brothers: Hugh and Lewis Sewell; sister: Hazel Berry; and granddaughter: Marie McNitt.

Funeral services will be held Monday, August 10, 2015 at 12:15 P.M. in the Church of the Most Holy Trinity with Rev. Jacek Szuster officiating. Burial will follow in Bellevue Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Church of the Most Holy Trinity, 720 Telfair St., Augusta, GA 30901 or to the Immaculate Conception Catholic School, 811 Telfair St., Augusta, GA 30901.
