Bettye Kinsey
Augusta, GA – Bettye Jo Heil-Kinsey was called to her heavenly home Tuesday morning, August 4, 2015.
Bettye Jo Heil-Kinsey was born in Leesville, LA, the daughter of Volney “Jake” Robertson and Alma Jewel Weeks Robertson. She lived in Augusta, GA. for the past 45 years. Bettye was very fashionable, a high achiever, and was able to balance her work career with the raising of her children. She believed strongly in the equality of women and was one of the founding members of the National Organization of Women (NOW) in Augusta, GA. She graduated from college and completed an internship for the U.S. Army. She retired on April 30, 2007, from Fort Gordon, GA, having achieved the rank of Supervisory Training Specialist (Electronics) for the Directorate of Training. She was responsible for developing new equipment training strategies and overseeing the design, development, and evaluation of training materials. She was awarded the Commander’s Award for Civilian Service having served 35 years to her country and to the U.S. Army.
Her outstanding contributions and commitment to excellence in her work life and home life earned her the respect and admiration of her friends and peers. During her retirement she participated in a number of group activities with her friends, including the Augusta Area Newcomer’s Club. She remained active and helpful to others as part of her service to her church. Bettye was a member of Victory Baptist Church. She was an inspiration to everyone who knew her and always strived to live her life according to the teachings of Jesus Christ.
Bettye was preceded in death by her mother and father and her sisters, Mary Alice Robertson and Bobbye Jean Robertson. Surviving are her husband, Barry Sylvester Kinsey; her son, Joseph Lee Henson of Atlanta, GA; her daughter, Kimberly Henson Ewing of Cape Coral, FL; her stepson, Jason Ryan Kinsey of Crossit, AR; step-daughter, Olivia Michelle McKurley of Augusta, GA; and three step-grandchildren.
A celebration of her life with Reverend Chris Brown officiating will be held on Friday, August 7, 2015, 11:00 A.M. in the Chapel of Victory Baptist Church, 620 W. Martintown Road, North Augusta, SC 29841. (803)278-2138.
