Obituary

Patricia (Blaine) Karns, 70, former Ledyard Town Clerk, died Friday evening at Greentree Manor in Waterford.

Mrs. Karns was born in New London on February 1, 1935 the daughter of Edwin and Ruth (Paulson) Blaine.

Mrs. Karns enjoyed a 28 year career with the Town of Ledyard, starting as Asst. Town Clerk in 1970. In 1983, she accepted the position as Town Clerk, serving until her retirement in 1998. After her retirement, the Town proclaimed a “Patricia Karns Day” in her honor.

She will be fondly remembered for always taking the time to listen others and for making them feel special. As a resident of Greentree, she served as President of the Resident’s Council.

She was married to George C. Karns on February 27, 1954 in Groton. He died April 1, 2002. She is survived by three children, Scott Karns and his wife Debora of Moorpark, CA, Sherrie L. Karns of Groton and Sheila R. Taurianen and her husband William of Ledyard; her siblings, Ted Blaine of Montana, Edwina Wright, Donna Wandell, and Melissa Hinkle all of WA; 3 grandchildren, Todd Bridgeman, Nicole Clark, and Krystle Wood; and 3 step-grandchildren, Kathryne E. and Joshua Taurianen and Jacob A. Harper, as well as a special friend, Loretta Gomez. She was also predeceased by two sons, Douglas and Patrick Karns.

Her family will greet relatives and friends at The Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, Historic downtown Mystic on Wednesday from 5-8pm. Her service will be Thursday at 10:30am at the funeral home with burial following at Lambtown Cemetery, Ledyard. In appreciation for the excellent care she received, the family requests donations in her memory to Greentree Manor Patient Recreation Fund, 4 Greentree Dr, Waterford 06385 or American Diabetes Assoc., 300 Reseach Pkwy, Meriden CT 06450.
