Gary E. Thompson, 70, of Medway died July 28 at his home following a brief illness. He was the husband of Rebecca (Hall) Thompson for the past 45 years.
Born in Quincy, June 11, 1945, the son of the late David E. and Florence L. (Wilson) Thompson, Mr. Thompson was raised in Hingham and had lived in Pennsylvania and New Jersey prior to moving to Medway 13 years ago.
Mr. Thompson had been a manager for Sodexho Environmental Services for many years. He also had worked for ServiceMaster.
He had served in the Air Force during the Vietnam War attaining the rank of Sergeant.
He had been an active member of the Emmanuel Baptist Church of Norfolk. He enjoyed playing on the church softball team, gardening, woodworking, and riding his motorcycle.
In addition to his wife he is survived by his children, Becky Thompson of Medway, Seth Thompson of Malaga, Spain and Ben Thompson of Hyannis. He was also the father of the late Nathaniel Thompson.
He is also survived by his siblings Virginia Thompson of Plympton, Colleen Thompson of Plympton, Bill Thompson of North Brookfield, Doug Thompson of Gilbertsville, Pennsylvania, Glen Thompson of Pembroke, and Mark Thompson of Hyannis. He was the brother of the late David Thompson.
He is also survived by his grandchildren, Kapka and Seth Thompson.
His memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 8 at 11 a.m. in the Emmanuel Baptist Church, 63 Rockwood Rd., Norfolk.
Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Plympton.
