Ethel T. (McCormack) Maciel, 80, of New Bedford died Sunday May 1, 2005 at St. Luke's Hospital.
Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Arthur R.and Mary I. (Valentim) McCormack, she lived in New Bedford all of her life, most recently residing at Melville Towers.
She was a communicant of St. Lawrence Church.
Mrs. Maciel was formerly employed as a travel consultant for Paragon Tours and Travel for many years. She was a Past Regent of the Daughters of Isabella Hyacinth Circle #71, Past President of the Catholic Guild for the Blind, and Past President of the New Bedford High School Alumni Association. She had been a den mother of Cub Scout Troop #1 at St. Lawrence Church for six years.
She was a graduate of New Bedford High School, Class of 1941, and attended the Kinyon-Campbell Business School.
Survivors include a daughter, Catherine M. Hirth of New Bedford; three sons, James M. Maciel, and his wife Kathleen, of Yonkers, NY, George M. Maciel, and his wife Jane, of West Hartford, Conn., and Stephen M. Maciel, and his wife Nancy, of East Greenwich, RI; a grandaughter, Sarah E. Maciel of Manchester, Conn; three step-grandchildren, Kate Machowski of Boston, Joe Machowski of West Hartford, and Nathan Smith of West Greenwich, RI; and many nieces and nephews, including Vera R. Hunt of New Bedford, Serena Clunie of Casselberry, Florida, and Walter Alexander of New Jersey.
She was the grandmother of the late Joshua Aaron Maciel, mother-in-law of the late Paul Hirth, sister of the late Arthur H. McCormack, A. David McCormack, Walter F. McCormack, Mary J. Costa, Alice Alexander, and Beatrice Garcia, and aunt of the late Geraldine Keavy.
A private Funeral Mass was celebrated on Wednesday morning in St. Lawrence Church. Burial followed in St. Mary's Cemetery.
