Mildred Pauline (O'Keefe) Fox, originally from Dorchester and Watertown, and later retired and lived in East Falmouth, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, July 29, 2015, at the South Shore Hospital in South Weymouth, at the age of 93.
Born in Boston, she was the daughter of the late Mary (Borgess) & David O'Keefe. Mildred was a Registered Nurse having gone to Massachusetts Memorial Hospitals in Boston in 1959. She worked in various hospitals and nursing care facilities in and around Boston, as well as private duty. She finished out her career in nursing as the Head Nurse at Perkins School for the Blind in Watertown.
She had many interests including music and travel. She always had a song in her heart and put so much living into her 93 years of life. Everything brought a song to her mind. She was a member of The Sweet Adeline Chorus and was very proud to have performed at Carnegie Hall. She was a member of the Boston Society of Ballroom Dancers, the Saints and Singers Chorus, Falmouth Chorale and Woods Hole Cantata. She volunteered at Falmouth Hospital for nearly 40 years. She belonged to a bowling league in Falmouth which met on Friday mornings and enjoyed time spent with "the girls" for luncheons afterward. She was a member of The Ann Harvard Society. She was a breast cancer survivor.
Mildred was the beloved wife of the late Joseph M. Fox. She leaves behind many nieces, nephews and loved ones. Most dear to her heart were her younger sister, Helen's children, Richard (Paul) White of Medway, Walter Preble of South Boston, Linda Swanson of Kingston and Jeffrey White of Havelock, NC. "Auntie Millie" became their surrogate mother after Helen's passing in 1968. Millie was predeceased by her siblings, Edith Bowes, David, Lawrence and John O'Keefe and Helen White. She leaves her stepson, Donald Fox of Gloucester and was predeceased by stepdaughter, Susan and stepson, Alan. She will be sorely missed.
