Betty R. Fair
June 20, 1939 to July 30, 2015
FAIR, Betty R., 76, died peacefully on July 30, 2015, in Fort Wayne, IN. She was born June 20, 1939 to Rev. Alex G. & Sirvart Aved in Fresno, CA. Betty grew up in Fresno, CA, graduating from Fresno High School in 1957.
She attended Anderson College in Anderson, IN, graduating in 1961. In Anderson, she met and married the love of her life, Rev. Philip M. Fair. They were married on September 3, 1960 in Fresno, CA and shared fifty-four years of marriage together.
Betty was a gifted vocalist, singing, traveling & recording with the Bill Gaither Trio. She later directed and developed the children’s choir programs in several of the Church of God congregations in which she and her husband Phil ministered. Her rich alto voice and her heart for worship made even the simplest hymn or chorus a treasured moment to be savored.
Betty’s contagious smile and mischievous humor made her impossible not to love. Throughout the decades of the seventies, eighties and nineties, she became a “mom-away-from-home” to many Anderson University students. Her ability to make a person feel welcome and at ease was an invitation to friendship.
As her children grew, Betty served in several jobs including working at Alexandria House and a gift store in Anderson. Her most significant role was that of nanny to Sandi Patty’s family for twenty plus years. She was a beloved part of that family and treasured her time with each and every member.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Phil, her father, Alex, her mother, Sirvart and her sister, Grace. She is survived by her children, son Rev. Kelly S. Fair and wife Rev. Suze Fair and grandchildren Benjamin, Katharine, and Mackenzie ; daughter Lori (Fair) Layugan and husband Tony and daughters Nicole & Jessica. More than anything, Betty loved Jesus, her husband, her children and her grandchildren.
