Maryann M. Korpita, 61, of Mystic, formerly of West Hartford, died on Monday, July 27, 2015 at her home. She was born on December 27, 1953, the daughter of Howard and Mildred (Nelson) Jensen.
She is a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving during the Vietnam conflict. Maryann loved the outdoors. She held a Master Gardener’s Degree, and she loved the ocean. Fishing, hunting, gardening, traveling, cooking, scuba diving, kayaking and camping were among her favorite pastimes. She will be missed by her beloved dogs, Zoey and Jake.
Maryann is survived by her lifetime partner, Brian Butterfield of Mystic and her two sons, Andrew and Alex Korpita. She is also survived by her mother Mildred Jensen of Groton, sister Janet Dion Greenspan and her husband William of Westerly RI and brother Curt Jensen and his wife Hester of Salem, as well as several nieces and nephews. She was a mother and grandmother to all of Brian’s children. She was like a mother to all of her sons’ many friends and was especially beloved by every member of Alex’s rugby team.
She is predeceased by her father, Howard Jenson, and brothers Carl and Lance Jensen.
Maryann’s family will greet relatives and friends on Wednesday, August 5, from 4 to 6pm at the Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, Mystic. Burial will be private for the family.
