Martha “Virginia” Tyson Rutland, 93, of Lenox, passed away Thursday, July 30, 2015, at Tift Regional Medical Center. Her funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, August 2, 2015, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals with Rev. Terrell Roberts officiating. Mrs. Rutland will be laid to rest at Rutland Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday, August 1, 2015, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.
Matthew Rutland, Daniel Rutland, Jerry Rutland, Greg Rutland, Michael Godwin and Brad Pettett will serve as pallbearers.
Mrs. Rutland was born on March 12, 1922 in Cook County, the daughter of Gordon Gray and Bessie Tyson Gray, both deceased. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Thomas E. Rutland. She was a homemaker and of the Primitive Baptist faith. She was an avid reader and loved gardening and flowers and was a true farmer’s wife. She dearly loved her dog, Daisy.
Mrs. Rutland is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Cobert Wagner of Lake City, Florida; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Stephen and Melissa Rutland of Lenox, Charles and Teresa Rutland of Jacksonville, Florida and Mark Rutland of Lenox; seven grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
