Obituary

Richard W. Hogan, 89, formerly of Barnes Street, Greenville, died Wednesday, July 22, 2015 at Cortland Place. He was the husband of Lorraine (Richard) Hogan. They have been married for over 60 years.
Born in Providence, he was a son of the late Christopher and Mary (Farrell) Hogan. He had lived in Greenville since 1954.

He is survived by his sons: John “Jack” Hogan and his wife, Corinne, and Michael Hogan all of Greenville, his beloved grandchildren: Ashley and Christopher and his brother: Edward F. Hogan of Melbourne, FL. He was the brother of the late John M., Robert J. and Thomas C. Hogan.

Mr. Hogan was a crane operator for International Union of Operating Engineers, Local #57 for over 40 years, retiring in 1991. One of his proudest accomplishments was operating a crane for the construction of the Newport bridge.

He was drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals right after high school. A month later he was drafted by the US Navy. He was a SeeBee and a member of the 144th Naval Construction Battalion. After he was discharged he reenlisted and played baseball for the US Navy and traveled in Guam and the Pacific Theatre playing baseball alongside such baseball greats as Joe DiMaggio to entertain the troops.

He was an avid golfer and played well into his 80’s. The Hogan Family wants to thank the staff of Cortland Place and Beacon Hospice for their compassionate and dedicated care.

Funeral Saturday morning at 8:30am from the Anderson-Winfield Funeral Home, Route 44 at Greenville Common, Greenville. A Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30am in St. Philip Church, 622 Putnam Pike, Greenville. Burial with military honors in St. Ann’s Cemetery, Cranston. Visitation Friday 4-7pm.
