Louise P. “Penny” (Colburn) Ackerly, 71 of Abington, MA died on Monday July 20 at Massachusetts General Hospital surrounded by her family.
Born in Boston, MA in 1944 and the second child of Harry Colburn and Elinor (Perry) Putnam, she graduated from Jeremiah E. Burke High School in 1962 and obtained her Bachelor’s Degree from UMass Boston.
She was a longtime employee of the Peter Bent Brigham Hospital and Brigham & Women’s Hospital. She was an ardent figure skater and was passionate about her pets and animal rescue charities.
She was the sister of Charles A. Colburn of Hyde Park, MA and Deborah P. (Colburn) Strout of Gorham, ME and the former wife of the late James M. Ackerly.
She leaves behind her loving daughter Melissa L. (Ackerly) Gorman and her husband Lawrence P. Gorman, Jr of East Bridgewater as well as her beloved grandson Joshua L. Gorman. She was also a doting aunt to her nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral services on Friday July 31 at 10 AM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Rte. 58 @ the rotary) Whitman. Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery, Hyde Park. Visiting hours will be held Thursday July 30 from 4-8 PM.
