GROVELAND - Margaret Mary “Peggy” (Cogan) Travers, age 65, died peacefully on Monday afternoon, July 20, at the Merrimack Valley Hospice House in Haverhill with her beloved husband at her side. She had shared thirty-five years of marital joy with Michael D. Travers, and celebrated their anniversary on June 27th.
Peggy was born in Lowell, in April, 1950, one of four children of Virginia (McCarthy) Cogan of Nashua, NH, and the late Walter J. Cogan. She was raised in Tewksbury and graduated from Tewksbury Memorial High School with the Class of 1969.
Peggy lived in Lawrence, Methuen and Haverhill before settling in Groveland twelve years ago. She had worked as a waitress at several Haverhill and Lawrence Diners, and as a Nursing Assistant in several area Nursing Homes. She was remembered for her generous spirit, her great laugh, and her ability to make new friends wherever she traveled. She loved dancing, going to the beach, Bingo, Crochet, and knitting afghans for children in shelters and for patients at the Merrimac Valley Hospice in Haverhill.
Besides her beloved husband and mother, she leaves two sons, Todd Silva of Salisbury, MA, and Damon Silva and his fiancée, Danielle Rogers both of Haverhill; a sister, Arleen MacCallum and her husband Dennis of Wilton, NH; two brothers, Richard Cogan and his wife Robin of Boise, ID, Joseph Cogan and his wife Michelle of Merrimack, NH; many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, a grandniece and grandnephew.
Memorial visiting hours are Saturday, July 25, from 2:00 until 4:30 in the Tewksbury Funeral Home, corner of 1 Dewey and 975 Main Sts. (Rte. 38) TEWKSBURY CENTER, Ph. (800 in MA or 978) 851 2950. A Memorial Service will be held at 4:30 on Saturday in the Funeral Home. Kindly omit flowers.
