Obituary

CHICOPEE – Robert “Carl” Ray, 84, of the Aldenville section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Monday, July 20, 2015. He passed into Eternal Life at home surrounded by all the memories he loved and cherished. He was born in Richland Center, Wisconsin on May 1, 1931, the beloved son of the late Earl A. and Allene (Anderson) Ray. He was born and raised in Richland Center, graduated from Richland Center High School in 1950, and lived in Richland Center before entering the military. He later lived in Holyoke, Saratoga, NY, and South Hadley before moving to Chicopee where he resided for the past 25 years. He served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean War and attained the rank of Airman. He received the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. Following his service, he worked as a manager at the Clark’s Department Store, in Holyoke and in Saratoga Springs, NY. He also worked at E.H. Friedrich’s in Holyoke. He was last employed as an assistant manager at the Wendy’s Restaurant in Chicopee. Above all, he showered his family with his love and affection which was returned to him a thousand fold. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Rose M. (Sullivan) Ray who was Called Home on January 23, 1987. He was also predeceased by his three dear sisters, Betty Wilson, Dorothy Truman and Lorraine Drury. He leaves his five loving children, Linda S. Baillargeon and her husband, James, of Southampton, Thomas T. Ray and his wife, Linda, of Huntington, Donna A. Bliss and her husband, David, of Greenfield, Carol A. Stevenson and her husband, Roger, of Chicopee and Robert C. Ray of Warner, NH; his nine cherished grandchildren, Rachel Fagullar and her husband, Corey, Sara Polverini and her husband, Kevin, Thomas T. Ray, Jr., and Kevin Ray, Melanie Bliss and her partner, Brandon Piexotto, and Jason Bliss, Erika Viens, and Robert C. Ray, III and Jonathan Ray; his four cherished great grandchildren, Emily and Abbé Fagullar, and Griffin and Giulia Polverini; his dear brothers-in-law and sister-in-law of the Sullivan family, Timothy Sullivan of Holyoke, Frannie Langner of Appleton, WI and Edward Sullivan and his wife, Sandee, of Florida; and his many nephews, nieces, cousins, friends and extended members of the Ray and Sullivan families. Carl’s family would like to extend a special thank you to his longtime caregiver, Julie, for her care and compassion to Carl. Family and friends are invited to attend a Prayer Service on Friday, July 24, 2015 at 10 a.m. at the St. Pierre-Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020 (the funeral home will open at 9:00 a.m.). His Burial with United States Navy Honors will follow the Prayer Service at Saint Jerome Cemetery, 1674 Northampton Street, Holyoke, MA 01040. His family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, July 23, 2015 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The parking lot and main entrance are located in the rear of the funeral home at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
