George Thompson passed away on July 18 after a brief illness. George was born on May 14, 1938 to Sam and Hattie Thompson. George was preceded in death by his parents and sister Norma Brooks. George is survived by his wife Barbara, daughter and son-in-law May and David Green, granddaughter and spouse Jessica and Eric Marnell, great granddaughters Alexandria and Amelia Marnell, and daughter Lora Moss.
George was a missile technician at Raytheon in Oxnard until the plant closed in 1990. George had many interests. He enjoyed camping with friends and he looked forward to visiting Mary and her family when he had the chance to visit the midwest. He had a great interest in the history of the old west. He enjoyed reading about history and he loved watching Gunsmoke.
He was a charter member of the Gold Coast Thunderbird Club and a member of the Lincoln Club. He liked older automobiles, and enjoyed attending car shows, museums, and swap meets. He was fascinated with anything connecting with time such a clocks and watches. Thanks to Jim and Ann Cowan he discovered cruising. We visited Mexico, Hawaii, Panama Canal, and the South Pacifica. One of his favorite trips was a cruise to Midway Island on the occasion of the 65th anniversary of the Battle of Midway in 2007.
George also enjoyed pets and there was usually a dog and or cat around the house. The neighbor cat, Guinness, would visit for an afternoon nap.
George was quiet about his faith but it was very strong. He trusted God's plan for him and did not worry.
