Robert Thomas Johnson, 67, of Fernandina Beach passed away Saturday evening, July 18, 2015 at Baptist Medical Center in Fernandina Beach.
He was born September 23, 1947 in Fernandina Beach and was a life-long resident. He graduated from Fernandina Beach High School where he played football, baseball and ran track. Mr. Johnson was a very good athlete and would have been drafted by a minor league baseball team had the U. S. Army not drafted him. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army and was stationed in Germany.
He worked for Terminal Bag Company until is closed and then went to work for the City of Fernandina Beach where he worked as a senior maintenance worker until the time of his passing.
Mr. Johnson was a devoted father and known to all for his generosity; helping all who needed help. He was an avid sports fan and played and watched all sports. He loved hunting, fishing and gardening. He kept a large garden and all in the community knew they could go to his garden and pick produce. He was a good friend to many, many people.
Mr. Johnson was predeceased by his grandson, David Adam Jones and by a granddaughter, Brandy Jones.
Survivors include his daughter, Chiquita "Chickie" Jinright and her husband, Eddie of Callahan, FL; a sister, Gladys Ann Garcia of Yulee, FL; a granddaughter, Sherry Jones; five great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and many friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 22, 2015 in the Stephens Chapel at Green Pine Funeral Home with Pastor Steve Wilgamott officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in Green Pine Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
