Obituary

Gene Dixon, 73, of Fitzgerald, died Saturday, July 18, 2015, at Serenity Place in Dublin.

Funeral services will be held 2 PM, Tuesday, July 21, 2015, at The Paulk Funeral Home in Fitzgerald with the Rev. Randy McDuffie officiating. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 Monday evening at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.

Mr. Dixon was born April 30, 1942, in Ben Hill County, Georgia, to the late Marvin & Ellene Tison Dixon. A 1960 graduate of Fitzgerald High School, he attended Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College in Tifton. He was the cutting room supervisor for Custom Sportswear and later Champion, Inc. Mr. Dixon was very active in many areas. He enjoyed being outdoors and working with nature. He hunted snakes for the Rattlesnake Roundup, collected arrowheads, and was an apiarist, sharing honey with his friends and family. He enjoyed racing pigeons and was a member of the Fitzgerald Club. Under his handle “Night Hawk”, Mr. Dixon made friends across the country and around the world with his CB and Ham radios. His friends at the Huddle House as well as those he ate with at Johnnie’s Drive-In will miss their times together. He was of the Baptist faith.

Mr. Dixon is survived by his three daughters and a son-in-law: Denise Dixon Fuller of Dublin, Debbie Dixon Hobby of Tifton and Donna Dixon Corbin and her husband Allen Corbin of Thomasville; grandchildren: Brad Thompson, Katie Corbin, Emily Ott, Nicholas Hobby, Keri Corbin, Thomas Fuller, Garrett Hobby, Benjamin Fuller, and Kamryn Corbin; the mother of his children, Pat Nelms Dixon of Dublin; sister and brother-in-law: Patricia & David Register of Fitzgerald; brother and sister-in-law: Bobby & Patsy Dixon of Fitzgerald; and a special friend, Katherine Cotterman of Fitzgerald. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

The family greatly appreciates the loving care and attention Mr. Dixon received through the hospice organizations that served him.
