Obituary

Mary Ellen (Wrenn) Howell, a lifelong Charlestown resident, entered into eternal life on Saturday, July 18, 2015 at her home in Charlestown following a courageous battle with cancer. She was 80 years old.

Mary Ellen was born in Cambridge on October 29, 1934, a daughter of the late Daniel J. Wrenn and Mary (Daly) Wrenn. She grew up in Charlestown where she was educated at St. Francis De Sales Parochial School and graduated from Girls High School in Boston. She was a member of the Old Charlestown Schoolgirls Association. Mary Ellen worked several odd jobs around Charlestown but her main focus in life was her family. Mary Ellen enjoyed the quality times spent with her children and their families especially her grandchildren. It has been said and understood that when you met Mary Ellen for the first time it only took a fraction of a second to know where you stood with her.

Mary Ellen is the beloved wife of the late Donald F. Howell. She is the devoted mother of Rusty Howell and his wife Beth of Maine, Donna Downs and her husband Tom of Wilmington, Michael Howell of Charlestown, Lynda Fitzpatrick and her husband Warren of Wilmington, Sheila Fitzpatrick and her husband Jim of Tewksbury and Carol Twomey of Charlestown. She is the loving Nana to Paul, Steven, Janine, Warren, Kevin, Jimmy, Brian, Molly, Alyson, Kimberly, Kathleen, Tommy, Maura, Bridget and her great-grandchildren Mason and Rylan. She is the dear sister of Barbara Marsden of Haverhill, Nancy Steen of Wilmington, Daniel Wrenn of Medford, John Wrenn of Charlestown and the late Joseph Wrenn and Carol Wrenn. She is also the loving aunt to many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Mary Ellen's Funeral on Thursday, July 23, 2015 at 9 A.M. from The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown followed by her Funeral Mass in St. Francis De Sales Church, 313 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown at 10 A.M. Her burial will be at Woodlawn Cemetery in Everett. Visiting hours will be on Wednesday, July 22, 2015 from 4 to 8 P.M. in the funeral home.
