Obituary

Laura Ann Hollis (Traphaghen)
Born 7-25-1958 Re-entered the light 7-14-2015

Laura Ann Traphaghen was born in 1958 in Attleboro, Massachusetts to Kenneth William Traphaghen and Nina Lee Traphaghen. The second child of what would eventually turn out to be six siblings, Rachel, Leslie, Kenneth Jr., Nina Jr., Tracy and Michael.
Laura was a fearless crusader putting up small fights even from her youth for the recognition of equality in all persons. After surviving several unsurmountable odds-Laura went onto become an advocate for women, the homeless, victims of violence and abuse, at risk youth and survivors of drug addiction. She spent several years in this position at various local shelters and organizations in and around Boston, Massachusetts and also nationally. Here she could provide her gentle expertise, hard-won wisdom which she delivered with the utmost concern for individual well-being. She wanted to be known as socially conscience and culturally sensitive and she was.
Laura loved to travel the Caribbean, to draw and paint and to listen to music and dance. The fondest memories her children have of her are waking early every morning of their youth to her presence at the kitchen table with Bible, cup of tea and daily word spread before her maintaining a steady connection to her higher power. This she loved, this she spoke of most often and these are the teachings which will not be forgotten.
Laura is survived by her two daughters and six grandchildren- Rebecca Renee Wimberly (38) mother of Mikazae Omikai Olaiya Noel (16), Madeleine Cora-SeQuioa Chacon (9mths) and unborn Chacon expected in late 2015. Laura Marie Thomas (32) mother of London Aisha-Mozelle Fraser (6), Trace LaTreal Hollimon (10 mths.) twin sister Torry-Tayana Lyric Hollimon(10mths.) Of course we would not forget the spirit of her second born who passed before her to greet her first Aisha Mozelle Thomas awaiting re-unification in heaven.
We are grateful to all who knew our mother and lent their time and energy to our homes and upbringing. You should all be pleased to know she was put to final rest with a look of peace and acceptance on her face. Laura’s ashes will be spread respectively by both her surviving daughters’ one depositing a portion in the Atlantic Ocean at Horseneck Beach MA, and another portion in the Pacific Ocean Venice Beach CA where it is believed she was making current plans to move. This satisfies our hearts in memorializing her as this is how wide we believe an angels wings are in full span.
Public Memorial services will be held at Lawler and Crosby’s Funeral Home @ 1830 Centre St. West Roxbury, MA 02132 On Saturday August 1, 2015 from 4-6 pm (617)323-5600
