BRIDGEWATER - Mary E. (Canney) Toomey, 71, of Bridgewater, formerly of Stoughton, died Sunday, April 24, 2005, at Brockton Hospital after a brief illness. She was the wife of Paul J. Toomey.
Born May 25, 1933 in Boston, she was a daughter of the late Owen and Anna (Devlin) Canney.
Mrs. Toomey was raised in Charlestown and was a graduate of Bishop Chevrus High School in Malden, Class of 1951.
She was an administrative assistant at Merkert Enterprises for 10 years.
Mrs. Toomey had been a resident of Bridgewater for the past eight years, coming from Stoughton, where she lived for 10 years. She also spent time in Florida.
She was active in High Pond Estates, where she resided.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by two daughters, Carole A. Berteletti and her husband David of Stoughton and Donna M. Glynn and her husband Patrick of North Easton; and her grandchildren, Katelyn and Kristen Berteletti and Meghan and Michael Glynn.
Her funeral will be held from the Prophett Funeral Home, 98 Bedford St. (Rte. 18), Bridgewater, Thursday at 9:15 a.m., followed by a funeral Mass in St. Ann’s Church, West Bridgewater, at 10 a.m. Visiting hours are Wednesday 4-8 p.m. Donations in her name may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
