Obituary

Lovewell, Madeleine (Lougee) after several months of serious illnesses, passed on at Newton-Wellesley Hospital, in peace and love, with her husband, Jack, and daughter, Lynn, at her side.

Survived by her husband (John Clarke L.) of 64 years and their children: John Tuckerman L., Rodney Bradford L. and Debbie Lember, Steven Noyes L. and Cynthia Moyer L., Robert Edwin L. and Linda Golder, and Madeleine Annette L. (Lynn Janus) and John Janus.

Survived also by Jack’s and her grandchildren: Jonathan L. of Northboro and Framingham, Kristina Lynn Hallenbrook of Worcester, Benjamin L. of Westport (CT) and J.J. Janus of Worcester. Maddie is also survived by cousins and life-long friends.

Madeleine came from Brookline (MA) to a happy and productive life in Wellesley Hills (MA). She graduated (with Jack) from the Gamaliel Bradford (Wellesley) Senior High School in 1947 and from Colby Jr. College (Colby-Sawyer) in 1949 as an Associate in Sciences with Honors.

Maddie gladly pursued a succession of secretarial-related careers, whenever Jack or their children needed extra help or support. 1960-1965, Maddie was the 24/7 manager for the Wellesley F.L.E.S. Program. She was a chief secretary for the Village Church for 20 years.

Madeleine Lovewell was a descendant of the Bradford, Clapp, Gilman and Lougee families. The D.A.R. Register for Geo. Washington’s army, during the Revolutionary War years, shows that, during a winter at Valley Forge, Joseph Lougee (NH), Joseph Lovewell (Weston, MA), Joseph Clarke (NH) and Nicholas (!) Clapp bivouacked together.

Maddie was a granddaughter of Arthur Llewellyn Lougee and Annah Call Lougee, of 380 Essex St. (Salem, MA) and Lowell Tuckerman Clapp and Gertrude Rothwell Clapp of Evans Rd. (Brookline, MA).

Madeleine was steadfast, loyal, rational - but passionate and caring in all things: Maddie helped to plan WHS Reunion activities for more than 50 years. In recent years a Sudoku fan, Maddie always had a plan and a smile - the original “little blue-eyed red-haired girl.”

Interment private in the family plot at Woodlawn Cemetery, Wellesley (MA). A memorial service to celebrate her life, for family, friends, neighbors and colleagues, will be held at the Wellesley Hills Congregational Church, 207 Washington St., Wellesley Hills (Rte.16), at 1 P.M., Saturday, July 25, 2015, in the main Sanctuary.

A reception - TEA plus - will follow downstairs in the main gathering room. All are welcome. Cards and flowers will be appreciated.
