Shawn J. Kennedy, 67, of Mattapoisett died Sunday April 24, 2005 unexpectedly at St. Luke's Hospital in New Bedford. He was the husband of Judith L. (Lindsley) Kennedy.
Born and raised in New York City, the son of the late Joseph and Beatrice (McDermott) Kennedy, he later lived in Greenwich and Weston, Connecticut, before moving to Mattapoisett four years ago.
He was a communicant of St. Anthony's Church in Mattapoisett.
Mr. Kennedy was a construction executive with Mason, Nixon, & Kennedy, and later with Heckler Electric, both in New York City, until his retirement.
He was a graduate of Fordham Prep School in New York City and Georgetown University. He was active in the Mattapoisett Land Trust and served on the Planning and Zoning Commission in Weston for ten years. He served in the U.S. Navy as a Lieutenant Junior Grade from 1959 to 1963.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Christopher J. Kennedy of New York City, and Kieran M. Kennedy of Weston, Conn.; a daughter, Elizabeth K. Bisio of Roswell, Georgia; a sister, Alexandra West of Bridgeport, Conn.; and seven grandchildren.
His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday April 27, 2005 at 11 AM in St. Anthony's Church, Mattapoisett. His family will receive visitors at the Saunders-Dwyer Mattapoisett Home for Funerals, 50 County Road, Route 6, Mattapoisett on Wednesday morning 9-10:30 AM prior to the Funeral Mass. Burial with military honors will be in Cushing Cemetery, Mattapoisett. In lieu of flowers people can donate to the following two charities:
