Jean Winifred (Carbonneau) Zafiris passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 12, 2015, in Winchester, Massachusetts, with her loving family by her side.
Jean was born to Winifred (Nelson) and Leon Carbonneau in Boston, Massachusetts, in 1930. She was a 1949 graduate of Malden High School where she went into secretarial work thereafter having worked for the SD Warren Company in Boston in the 1950’s, The Town of North Reading, The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy and the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston.
In 1955 Jean married the late John P. Zafiris of Medford, a World War II Navy Seabee Veteran and banker by profession. Jean and John lived in North Reading and Medford, where they raised their family. They were very loving and caring parents and grandparents, whose lives were devoted to their family.
Jean was a member of The Grace Episcopal Church in Medford, where she was a longtime member of The Altar Guild and was very involved in the church. She was also a proud descendant member of The National Society of The Daughters of The American Revolution, a descendant of The Founding Fathers of New England as well as The British Royal Family.
Jean is survived by her son: John P. Zafiris, Jr., and his wife Jean, three grandchildren; Andrew, Ashley and John Zafiris, III, all of Billerica, sister; Ruth Hurley of Rowley, MA, sister-in-law; Lucie Crandall of Medford, MA and five 1/2 siblings; Leon Carbonneau, Elaine Dutton, Charles Carbonneau, Louise Gruber and Glenn Carbonneau and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
Her funeral will be celebrated in the Grace Episcopal Church, 160 High Street, Medford, on Friday, July 17, 2015, at 10 AM. Relatives and friends are most welcome to attend. Visiting hours will be held in the Beals-Geake-Magliozzi Funeral Home, 29 Governors Avenue, Medford on Thursday, July 16, 2015, from 4 to 8 PM.
