SPRINGFIELD – Loukia (Katsoulakis) Koundourakis, 84, a longtime resident of the East Springfield section of Springfield, was Called Safely Home on Sunday, July 12, 2015. She passed into Eternal life at Redstone Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in East Longmeadow surrounded by all the memories she loved and cherished. She was born in Vamos Chania Crete, Greece on May 6, 1931, a beloved daughter of the late Gabriel Katsoulakis and Smaragde (Polychronakis) Katsoulakis. She was raised in Greece and came to Springfield in 1977. She was employed as a seamstress at the former Carter Undergarment Company in Springfield. Active in her faith, she was a communicant of Saint George Greek Orthodox Cathedral. She was a member of the Ladies Philoptochos Society, the Cretan Ladies Society and the Over 60 Club. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Emmanuel Koundourakis who was Called Home on December 2, 1985; and her two loving brothers, Emmanuel Katsoulakis and Pantelis Katsoulakis. She leaves her loving brother, John Katsoulakis and his wife, Maria, and their family; her two loving sisters, Maria Alifantis and her family and Xanthippe Troulos and her family, all of Greece; her dear cousins, Maria Papadopoulos and her family, Nick and Elly and their family and Eleftheria Gelasakis and her family; and her many dear nephews and nieces in America and in Greece as well as extended members of the Koundourakis and Katsoulakis families. Loukia will Lie in State on Wednesday, July 15, 2015 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Saint George Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 2320 Main Street, Springfield, MA 01107. A Funeral Service will follow in the Cathedral at 11 a.m. Her burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery, 426 Bay Street, Springfield, MA 01109. There are no visiting hours at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Springfield Chapels, 7 Chapin Terrace, Springfield, MA 01107.
