O hEigeartaigh Richard – Of Roslindale, died Wednesday, April 20, 2005 after a long struggle with cancer. He is predeceased by his father, Richard Hegarty, and mother, Frances O’Brien, of Dorchester and wife Maureen (Grenham) of West Roxbury. He leaves his wife Kathleen (Vaught) O hEigeartaigh, and children, William Gerrity of Maryland, Kevin Gerrity of Sandwich, Risteard O hEigeartaigh of Rockland, Anne Sheridan of Oakland, CA, and sons Maitiu, Sean, and Micheal, all of Boston. In the tradition of his father and mother , Dick had an avid interest in Irish politics and supported the unification of Ireland as a free and sovereign nation. He was a life long member of Irish Northern Aid and a member of Friends of Sinn Fein. Fluent in the Irish language, Dick was awarded An Fainee in the early nineties and taught Irish classes in the greater Boston area since that time. He was an active member of Cumann na Gaeilge I mBoston. He was also fluent in Spanish and French, having earned a masters degree in Spanish from Assumption College in Worcester. Having worked most of his life as a computer programming consultant, Dick joined Children’s Hospital in the nineties. He was working on the Data Warehousing project at the time of his death. Funeral from the William J. Gormley Funeral Home, 2055 Centre St.,West Roxbury on Monday April 25 at 9am followed by a mass of Christian Burial said in Irish and English in St. John Chrysostom Church at 10 o’clock. Visiting hours Sunday 3-7 pm. Relatives and friends invited. After cremation, his remains will be brought to Ireland at the convenience of the family.
