Obituary

WORCESTER-Albert E. “Abby” Abdella, 85, of 26 Kingsbury Street died Wednesday, April 20th in Knollwood Nursing Home with his family at his side. He leaves his wife of 60 years, Mabel R. (Paquette) Abdella, 3 sons, Albert E. Jr. and his wife Jean Abdella, Richard P. and his wife Edeltraut Abdella all of Worcester, Paul R. and his wife Sandra Abdella of North Oxford, a brother Joseph and his wife Louise Abdella of Oxford, a sister Thelma wife of Sam Carpinetti of West Palm Beach, 5 grandchildren Mark P. and his wife Amanda Abdella of Newington, CT, Lee C. Abdella of Chicago, Richard P. Abdella, Jr., Renee M. Abdella and Paul R. Abdella, Jr. all of Worcester, 3 great-granddaughters Danielle and Nicole Chaput of Worcester, Rebecca-Lynn Abdella of Charlton, many nephews, nieces and cousins. A brother John Abdella, a sister Laura Morrisseau and a granddaughter Sandra Abdella Chaput predeceased him.

“Abby” was born in Worcester, November 14, 1919 the son of Edward and Anna (Eddo) Abdella and attended Worcester Public Schools. He was a World War 2 U.S. Marine Corps veteran serving with the 1st Division. He was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds received during the Battle of Guadalcanal. For decades he was an independent business owner proudly selling the finest produce and flowers from his stores on Park Avenue. He also owned and operated several taxicabs associated with the Yellow Cab Company, retiring in 1997 due to illness. Abby was a lifelong member of Our Lady of Mercy Church.

The funeral is Saturday, April 23rd with a service at 10:00 AM in O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to calling hours on Friday, April 22nd from 6:00 until 8:00 PM in the funeral home. Please omit flowers and make contributions to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
