Herschel Stewart Harper, Sr., age 85, died Friday, July 10, 2015 at Palemon Gaskin Nursing Home in Ocilla, GA
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, July 14, 2015 at Satilla Baptist Church with Mr. Sammy Smith Officiating. A private family burial will be held at a later date. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday.
Mr. Harper was born January 7, 1930 in Ocilla, Georgia to the late Harvey and Grace Chaffin Harper, and Louise Fussell Harper, his step-mother, who raised him. He was the Owner and Operator of Harper Carpets in Ocilla; he also served honorably in the United States Army during the Korea conflict, and was a member of Satilla Baptist Church. Mr. Harper enjoyed fishing and loved his dog “Bert”.
Survivors include his wife, Faye Rucker Harper, Ocilla; and his children: Herschel Harper, Jr. of Ocilla, GA; a daughter, Dianne H. Maddox and husband Reggie of Newnan, GA; three-step children; eleven grandchildren and many great-grandchildren; one brother, Laurice Harper and wife Betty of Atlanta, GA. His parents and one sister, Helon H. Nolan, preceded him in death.
