Donald J. Roy, age 81, passed away on June 24, 2015 at Wingate of East Longmeadow. Born in Springfield, MA on November 23, 1933 to the late Ernest and Laura (Morrier) Roy, he was the youngest of four children. Donald, a graduate of Wilbraham Academy and the Rhode Island School of Design, moved to NYC after college and worked as a graphic designer. When he returned to the Springfield area, Donald was employed at May Dental Lab as a currier before retiring in2006. Early in life, Donald developed a passion for classical music that led him to volunteer at the Tanglewood concert series each summer. He willingly shared his love of music with his nieces and nephews when they accompanied him to yearly Springfield Symphony concerts. Donald was an active communicant of Our Lady of Hope Church as well as a Eucharistic Minister. He was predeceased by his two brothers, Phillip Roy and Alan Roy and leaves behind his sister Joan, her husband Richard Footit and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the staff of Wingate of East Longmeadow for the loving care that they provided Donald over the years. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday July 11, 2015 at 10:00 AM from the Grise Funeral Home 280 Springfield St. Chicopee followed by a Mass at 11:00 AM at Mary, Mother of Hope Church. Burial will follow in St Michael Cemetery. Calling Hours will be held on the morning of the funeral from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM. Donations in Donald’s memory may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
