Obituary

Ernest A. Demers, 79, of Randolph, NH, died on July 7, 2015 as a result of a motor vehicle accident in Jackson. He was born in Cascade (Gorham), NH on February 25, 1936, the son of Louis and Antoinette (Morin) Demers and graduated from Notre Dame High School. Ernest served with the US Navy for six years and was employed by the United States Postal Service for 25 years, retiring as postmaster of the Gorham, NH Post Office. He was a member of Holy Family Church where he was an active volunteer. He enjoyed coordinating the decoration of the church for holidays and formerly taught CCD. He was an avid golfer and a member of the Androscoggin Valley Country Club. Ernest also enjoyed ice skating, gardening, and sewing.

His most enduring and passionate hobby was fine art painting. He was an incredibly talented artist who specialized in still lifes and landscapes. He painted mainly in oils, but also worked in watercolors and pastels. His still lifes featured fine collectibles, flowers, fruit, and ribbons in a variety of studio arrangements, and his landscapes reflected many of this area’s beautiful natural surroundings, often painted en plein air.

Ernest was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother who was very close to his family and enjoyed sharing time with them. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Denise (Langlois) Demers of Randolph, NH; sons Luke Demers and wife Lorri of West Boylston, MA and Kevin Demers of New Britain, CT; grandchildren Brian Demers and wife Amanda and Neil Demers; great-grandchild Lucia Demers; brothers Robert Demers and wife Jeanne of Gorham, NH and Norman Demers and companion Verlie Rajaniemi of Gorham, NH; sister-in-law Jeannette Demers of Berlin; nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his brother Peter Demers and his sister Annette Nadeau and her husband Albert.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday July 18, 2015 at 1 pm at Holy Family Church in Gorham. Interment will be in the Holy Family Cemetery. There will be no calling hours.
