Obituary

Worcester – Paul I. Leahey, 90, of Worcester, Passed away on Thursday, July 2nd in the Holden Rehabilitation and Nursing Center.

Mr. Leahey is survived by his wife of 30 years, Sharon L. (Higney) Leahey; a brother, James Leahey and his wife Annette of Worcester and many nephews, nieces and friends.

Paul was born in Worcester, son of the late William and Eva (St. Thomas) Leahey and is also predeceased by a brother William; and 4 sisters, Evelyn Deignan, Anita Kelly, Marie Sullivan and Margaret Coughlin.

Mr. Leahey proudly served in the United States Army During World War II with the 28th Infantry Division in both France and Germany. He was taken as a prisoner of war in the German town of Schmidt during the battle at Hurtgen Forest and remained as a POW until being liberated after the German surrender. Paul took part in the parade in Paris celebrating the liberation of the city. He was a member of the DAV Chapter 4, Central MA Chapter of the American Ex-Prisoners of War, the 28th Infantry Division Association and the 112th Regiment Association.

He graduated from, the School of Industrial Management at WPI and worked for many years at the Jamesbury Corporation retiring as a supervisor in 1987. Paul enjoyed traveling with his wife.

In his memory the family asks that you thank a veteran for the freedom that we are able to enjoy on a daily basis.

Mr. Leahey’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to both Dr. Thomas Walsh and Dr. Marc Goldstein for the care, love and support that was shown to both Paul and his family.

As a final act to his country, Paul donated his body to the UMass Medical School. Funeral services are private. Alfred Roy & Sons Funeral Home 12 Hammond St. is assisting the family.
