Virginia Ruth Jones Lassiter, 87, of Tifton went home to be with the Lord and reunited with loved ones Monday, July 6, 2015. Her funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, July 9, 2015, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals with Rev. Glenn Ford and Bro. Clinton Moore officiating. Mrs. Lassiter will be laid to rest at Tift Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Wednesday, July 8, 2015, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.
Johnathan Hodnett, Garrett Westberry, Gary Westberry, Steve Farmer, Clinton Farmer and Darryl Crossgrove will serve as pallbearers.
Mrs. Lassiter was born January 9, 1928 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, the daughter of Lewis Alexander Jones and Elma Cox Jones, both deceased. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 39 years, Charlie "Chuck" Lassiter; one sister; and one brother. She was a homemaker and formerly a peanut inspector at Banner Grain Warehouse in Tifton. She was a devout Christian lady and was the oldest member of Calvary Baptist Church in Tifton, where she had been an active member for 60 years. She loved her family and children and loved being a homemaker. She was named Mother of the Year twice and her son, Steve, said she was a #1 mother. Her children were always dressed immaculately at church and church came before any other activities.
Mrs. Lassiter is survived by one son, Stephen Ray Lassiter of Tampa, Florida; four daughters and sons-in-law, Cynthia and Tony Oliver, Susan and Clinton Moore and Beverly and Adrian Salter, all of Tifton and Ann and Larry Laughlin of Lawrenceville; one sister, Helen Embry of Fort Worth, Texas; seven grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
