Obituary

Edith “Duck Duck” Henderson Giddens, 84, of Ocilla, died July 5, 2015, at Tift Regional Medical Center in Tifton.

Graveside memorial services will be held 2 PM, Wednesday, July 8, 2015, at Bethlehem Cemetery in Irwin County with the Rev. John Gibbs, Jr. officiating. Cindy Giddens will give the eulogy. The family will receive friends in the sanctuary of Bethlehem Baptist Church, 424 Bethlehem Church Road, Ocilla one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.

Mrs. Giddens was born March 22, 1931, in Irwin County, Georgia to the late Eddie Lee & Connie Tanner Henderson. A 1949 graduate of Ocilla High School, she received her nurse’s training at Georgia Baptist Hospital in Atlanta. For 20 years, she worked as a Registered Nurse for Dr. Sams. She was also a farm wife and homemaker for her family. Duck Duck enjoyed knitting and quilting and was known to crochet angels to share with her friends. Her grandchildren remember her love of puzzles and creek fishing. A wonderful cook, her great-grandchildren particularly enjoyed her fried okra. Perhaps her greatest legacy for her family is the dedication she showed of reading her Bible daily, having read through the entire book every year for 47 years. She was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church.

She is survived by her sons and a daughter-in-law, Eddie & Cindy Giddens and Bruce Giddens, all of Ocilla; her grandchildren and their spouses: Cady & Tim Cooper, Zach & Mary Kopp Giddens, Sam Giddens and his fiancé Molly Fowler, Courtney & Jack Carr, Chase Giddens, and Chance & Mary Claire Giddens; her great-grandchildren: Wrenn Cooper, Abby Giddens, and Nolan Charles Giddens; and a sister and brother-in-law, Jane & Jerry Coley of Tifton. Several nieces and nephews also survive. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Robert Giddens; a brother, Rev. J.B. Henderson; and two sisters, Helen Clark and Sue Norton.

To honor the memory of Duck Duck, the family is planning to build a memorial garden using potted plants sent by friends and family. The family suggests those desiring to send memorials in lieu of flowers may send them to Bethlehem Baptist Church, c/o Rayburn Harper, 485 Daisy Road, Ocilla, GA 31774.
