TEWKSBURY - Edith T. (Siegel)(Bevin) Gath, age 92, died peacefully Monday morning, July 6, in the care of her beloved family at her Tewksbury home. She was the wife of Harold J. Gath, who died in 2003.
She was born in Lawrence, in June 1923, one of four children of the late William and Edith (Barnes) Siegel, and raised in the Prospect Hill section of the city. She had lived in Methuen before moving to Tewksbury in 1966, where she became a communicant of St. William’s Church. In her retirement, she had wintered in Haines City, Florida.
She graduated from Lawrence High School in 1941, and worked at the Plymouth Mills in Lawrence. She changed careers when she moved to A.T. & T., which would become Lucent before she retired in 1978.
She was a Past Commander of the Disabled American Veterans in Methuen, and was past president of the Slips and Clutches Square Dance Club in Methuen. During her winters, she enjoyed Shuffle Board, Bocce, Bowling and Darts, with her friends and neighbors in Florida.
Mrs. Gath leaves four sons, Bruce Bevin of Lowell, Gerald Gath and his wife Martha of Dunstable, Dennis Gath and his wife Nancy of Tewksbury, Ronald Gath and his wife Virginia of Reading; three daughters, Bonnie Sue Gath-Guptill of Billerica, Rebecca Fuller and her husband Gary of Dracut, Lorna Faye Gath and her fiancé Frank Paré of Salem, NH; twenty one grandchildren; twenty three great grand children; a great great granddaughter; sisters-in-law, Alice Pollinger of Chelmsford, Louise Gath of Deering, NH, Lynn Gath of Tewksbury; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her children, Donna Cote, Wayne Gath, and Karen Gath; her brother, William Siegel and his wife Evelyn; her sisters, Emma Flanders and her husband Raymond, Ruth Lambert and her husband Raymond; her brothers and sisters-in-law, Leonard and Lillian Gath, William “Happy” and Velma Gath, Frederick Gath, Charles and Dorothy Gath, Russell Gath, Mary and John McCarthy, Ann and Robert Pollinger.
Relatives and friends will be received from 9:00 until 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 13, in the Tewksbury Funeral Home, corner of 1 Dewey and 975 Main Sts. (Rte. 38) TEWKSBURY CENTER, Ph. (800 in MA or 978) 851 2950. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday at 11:30 a.m. in St. William’s Church, 1351 Main St. (Rte. 38) Tewksbury, followed by committal services in Tewksbury Cemetery.
