Obituary

Robert Bruce Thompson, of Canton, extraordinary husband, father, grandfather and friend; passionate about good food and fixer of anything; passed away on July 5, 2015 after a courageous battle with lung cancer. He was loving, selfless and smiling until the end. Born in Quincy on October 28, 1936, he was a true Renaissance Man, having careers spanning from working at his dad's restaurant, 'The Buttercup Donut Shop' in West Roxbury, to founding 'Thompson Building Repair and Maintenance Company' in the 90s. Bob loved to cook and during his time as chef at the Club Car in Norwood in 1975, he met a waitress and the love of his life, Marie (Altimar) Thompson, who he married and treasured until his last breath. They enjoyed a happy life together for 36 years including 5 years in sunny Florida, which were some of Bob's favorite memories. Most recently, Bob found his retirement passion as a security guard at Newpond Village in Walpole. He also adored spending time with his family and grandchildren. Visiting hours at the Dockray & Thomas Funeral Home 455 Washington St. Canton Wednesday 4-8 pm. Funeral mass at St. John the Evangelist Church Canton Thursday morning at 10:30. Burial Canton Corner Cemetery.
