Charles Patrick Nolan of Plymouth, formerly of Medfield, died peacefully on June 30th in his home with his family by his side. He is the cherished husband of Nancy (Tuszynski) Nolan, loving father of Christine (Nolan) Saidla and her husband Adam of Arlington, the loving father of Charles Nolan and his wife Kristy of Pembroke, and beloved “Big Charlie” to Olivia. Brother of James Nolan of Dedham, William Nolan of Manomet and Margaret (Nolan) Pendergast of New Port Richey, FL. Uncle Charlie is loved by many nieces and nephews and countless dear friends.
Born in Cambridge, MA on January 12, 1945, son of the late James and Margaret (Culhane) Nolan. He is a proud graduate of Cambridge High and Latin School, Boston State, and the US Army Intelligence Center. He also attended UMass and the University of Virginia. Charlie served in the US Army with the 902nd Military Intelligence Group in Washington, D.C. and received the Army Commendation Medal among other honors for his service. Charlie was active in local, state and federal politics having worked with several noted politicians including Speaker of the House Thomas P. O’Neill, Lieutenant Governor Thomas P. O’Neill, III, and presidential candidate Jimmy Carter. He was a past owner of Evanston Auto in Evanston, IL and later managed the Everett Shops for the MBTA. Later in life, Charlie turned his talents in carpentry and construction into a successful business.
A talented hockey player, Charlie volunteered as a hockey coach in Medfield and also served as the President of Medfield Youth Hockey. He enjoyed coaching Little League for many years. He was an avid golfer and a member of the Tuesday Night Hackers. His love of politics kept him active in local political campaigns, both in Medfield and Plymouth. He was a daily communicant at St. Bonaventure Church and was active in his parish community.
He took great pride and joy in his home and loved to entertain there. He was famously known as the life of the party. Taking and sharing photos and videos of family and friends brought him great joy. He wanted to capture everything on film as a special moment in time. As a result, he leaves a beautiful photographic legacy for his family. We will remember Charlie’s sense of humor and quick wit as well as his passion for political discussions. We will deeply miss his kind heart, his love for life, family and friends, his energy, his creativity, and his unique ability to make everyone around him feel special.
Charlie and his family are eternally grateful to the doctors and staff at Dana Farber who were more like angels paving the path of his journey with incredible skill, dedication, compassion, and love.
