Obituary

Mary Tashjian passed away at the age of 94 on June 28, 2015. She was predeceased by her husband Aram Moses Tashjian who died in 2000. Mary left 2 sons, Thomas Tashjian and his wife Tabitha of Oakham, MA and Timothy Tashjian and his wife Angela of Lexington, MA and 5 Grandchildren: Alysia Tashjian, Luke Tashjian, Mark Tashjian, Aram Tashjian, and Arman Ohanyan and a great grandchild Ryan Marzoll. Mary was born on December 12, 1920 in Waukegan Illinois. She moved with her parents Gladys and Hagop Haroian to Worcester and then to Sterling, MA to be near her sister Eva and Eva’s husband George Hightaian. She graduated from Commerce High School and Becker College and worked for a short time before enlisting in the Navy with her younger sister Rose. She served in the Navy at Pensacola Florida through World War II and after her discharge she enrolled in Clark University. She graduated from Clark University with a BA and MA in Psychology. She then obtained her psychologist license and worked as one of the first psychologists in the State Service with the Travelling School Clinic of Grafton State Hospital, travelling to different schools and evaluating children and their problems. She married Aram Tashjian on February 4, 1951 and together they operated Brittan Pharmacy, serving the Lincoln St. and Brittan Square neighborhoods and 7 Worcester Nursing homes. After retiring from that business in 1988 she began teaching psychology at Quinsigamond Community College until she retired at the age of 90 in December, 2010. After retiring at 90, she cooked a monthly Thursday luncheon for the Armenian Church of the Martyrs on Ormond Street. Calling hours will be from 5 to 7 PM on Friday July 10 at the Nordgren Memorial Chapel, 300 Lincoln St, Worcester, MA and a service will be held at the Armenian Church of the Martyrs on Ormond St. in Worcester at 9:30 AM on Saturday July 11. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Armenian Church of the Martyrs, 22 Ormond St., Worcester, MA. O1609 for their building renovation fund.
