Obituary

John "Jack" Andros Deane, Jr., died June 20, 2015 in Niantic. Son of the late John A. Deane, Sr. and Ruth Arnold Deane h e was born November 21, 1924 in Detroit but raised in Assonet, MA. He began his military career in 1941 proudly serving as a submariner during and after WW II in the Pacific theater on the Bluegill, Seafox, and S-47 boats. After leaving the Navy he returned to Assonet where he met his future wife, Ivelle. Together they built a life moving to Mystic where he was employed for 32 years at Electric Boat retiring as the Manager of Engineering Administration. During this time he also served the Town of Groton as the Planning Commission chair and the Zoning commission chair. His proudest accomplishment was being instrumental in the conception and building of the Allyn Street Connector.

John was a founding and active member of the Sub Vets of WW II and an active member of the Kari-Hill VFW post of Niantic.

He is survived by his daughters Susan Deane-Shinbrot, husband Mitch Shinbrot of Mystic and Martha Schwarzkopf , husband Eric of Niantic, Also two grandsons, John D. Deane of Groton and Steven Deane-Shinbrot of Arlington, VA, two great grandchildren Wyatt and Wyllow also of Groton, his brother Robert Deane of Encinitas, CA and many cousins. He was pre deceased by his first wife of 42 years, Ivelle Jette Deane and his second wife of 17 years Vivian Fricke Deane.

His family will greet relatives and friends on Friday evening from 5 to 8pm at the Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, Mystic. A Graveside Service with full military honors will be conducted on Saturday morning at 10:00am in Elm Grove Cemetery.
