John Mossali, a retired mason for the Town of Stoneham, died Saturday at the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital. He was 82.
Mr. Mossali was born in Cambridge, the son of the late Joseph and the late Maria (Pellegri) Mossali. John served with the Army during World War II and participated in combat throught Europe. John was also held as a prisoner of war by the Germans. John settled in Stoneham over 50 years ago, where he worked as a stonemason for the Town. John was a member of the VFW post 620. In his later years he was a great advocate for the elderly and served as president of the Stoneham Council of Aging and the Friends of Senior Citizens.
He was the beloved husband of the late Lillian (Ferrera). He was a devoted father to Gerard J. Caruso and his wife Bernice of Burlington, Joseph Mossali and his wife Nancy of Fla., Charles Mossali and his wife Corinne of Stoneham. He was a loving grandfather to 7 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. John was the brother of Rose Meloni of Arlington, Inez Maligno of Somerville, the late Mabel Crovo and Peter Mossali.
His funeral will be from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford, Thursday at 9 AM followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Patrick Church, 71 Central Street, Stoneham, at 10 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend and may visit with the family, Wednesday 2 – 4 and 7 – 9. Services will conclude with burial at St. Patrick Cemetery.
