Mel R. Milhem, the proprietor of Checker Cab of Cambridge, died unexpectedly, Wednesday, at his Lynnfield home. He was 47.
Born and raised in Lebanon, Mel came to the United States nearly 30 years ago from Australia. After settling in Cambridge, he founded the Checker Cab Company of Cambridge and built up the company from scratch. Known for his strong work ethic and keen ability to make friends, Mel was a strong supporter of the Republican Party and was a recognized for his significant support of the Ronald Reagan Library.
He was the beloved husband of Lara (Badwe). He was the cherished son of Riad and Lody (Issa) Milhem of Lebanon. He was a dear brother to Jack Milhem and Dolla Aude, both of Lynnfield and a loving uncle to 3 nieces and 6 nephews.
Relatives and friends are respectfuly invited to attend visiting hours at the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford, Sunday from 4 thru 9. Services and burial will be in Lebanon.
