Doris F. (Provencher) Merrill, 86, of Concord, NH, died Monday, April 4, 2005 in the Havenwood Nursing Home in Concord. Mrs. Merrill was born in Contoocook, NH on February 20, 1919, a daughter of the late Albert and Florence (Bean) Provencher. She graduated from Hopkinton High School. After attending hair dressing school, she ran her own shop in Contoocook for several years. She then moved to Derry where she lived for many years, until moving to Concord four years ago. Mrs. Merrill was a long-time member of the First Parish Congregational Church in East Derry. She was also a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxillary in Contoocook. Her hobbies included painting and sewing, especially Raggedy Ann Dolls.
She is survived by one step-son, Bruce Merrill of Windham, ME, one step-daughter, Patricia DeGeorge of Colorado Springs, CO, three step-grandchildren, two step-great-grandchildren, two sisters, Marion Packard of Whitefield, NH, Nina Healey of Shrewsbury, MA, also several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her first husband, Maurice Hoyt of Contoocook, her second husband Irving V. Merrill, and two sisters, Katharine Lawson and Eveline Houston, both of Contoocook.
Calling hours will be held on Friday April 8th from 10:00am - 12:00pm at the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch Street, Derry. Friends are welcome to join the family at the first Parish Congregational Church, Hampstead Road, East Derry for a luncheon immediately following. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 2:00PM in the First Parish Congregational Church. Committal services will be held at a later date at the family’s convenience.
