Obituary

Fletcher Eaton 88, a resident of Needham since 1964 died on Saturday April 2nd at the Avery Manor. Born in Waterville, Maine Fletcher graduated from Colby College in 1939 and MIT in 1949 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He worked in Raytheon in Wayland for 10 years and in 1969 went over to Polaroid becoming their Principal Engineer. Fletcher remained at Polaroid until 1982 when he had to retire at the age of 65. He was a former member of the Trinity Church and is a member of the Christ Episcopal Church in Needham. Fletcher was the former Chairman of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, former class secretary of MIT Alumni Assoc. Class of 49 and past president of Engineer Society of New England. Fletcher is survived by his wife Nellie (Walter) of 48 years. His children; Daniel Eaton of Needham and Martha Ann and her husband Dr. Michael Laposata of Boston. Brother of Arthur Eaton of Macon GA and the late John Eaton and Frances Pentlarge. Fletcher is also survived by his three grandchildren and his many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at the Christ Episcopal Church 1132 Highland Ave Needham on Thursday April 14th at 10:30 AM. In lieu of flowers memorials in Fletcher’s memory may be made to MIT Alumni Fund Class of 49, 77 Mass Ave. Building W92-280, Cambridge Ma 02139. Arrangements by the Eaton Funeral Home in Needham.
